Dates Set for Winter Ground School

The next session of private pilot ground school will begin on Monday February 1, 2010 and will go through March 24, 2010. Classes are every Monday and Wednesday over an 8-week period from 6pm to 9pm. The Class is $220.00 plus materials, which can be purchased the first day of class at Colgan Air Services.

There are many ways to sign up! You can call our receptionist, sign up online on the ground school page or simply just stop into Colgan Air Services.

If you are interested in learning to fly, ground school can be a great place to start! Some of the topics taught include principle of lift, gravity, drag control, airspeed and basic instrumentation. Unsure if getting a private pilot’s license is for you? Then call Colgan Air and sign up for an introductory flight with an instructor. One of our experienced instructors will discuss with you the process of obtaining your private pilot’s license while taking a half-hour flight in the sky.

Hiring Part-Time Line Technician

Colgan Air Services has an opening for a part-time Line Technician. Duties include towing, parking and fueling of aircraft. Also, you need to be able to do heavy lifting and perform cleaning and maintenance of hangars, aircraft (exterior and interior) and office buildings. Must be able to work early mornings, holidays, weekends and possible call-ins. A drivers license is required.

This is a great job if you love to be around aviation and have an interest in air transportation! The job requires a good work ethic and being punctual!

Hiring Part-Time Receptionist & Part-Time Line Technician

Colgan Air Services has an opening for a part-time receptionist specifically for nights, weekends and holidays. Good customer service skills are a must for this position. Other duties included invoicing, answering telephones, light cleaning and other duties as assigned.

We also have an opening for a part-time Line Technician. Duties include towing, parking and fueling of aircraft. Fly-In/Drive-In Waffle Breakfast

Come join us for a great family event sponsored the LaCrosse Area Flyers Club and the Valley View Rotary! It is an all-you-care-to-eat event with waffles, coffee and juice. While filling up your stomach on waffles, you will be able to watch the Bill Blank Airshow and view airplane exhibits. The event is Sunday, August 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m in the Colgan Air Hangar at 2709 Fanta Reed Rd. Tickets are $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door (children under 5 are free.) Tickets are available at: Festival Foods, Happy Joe’s Pizza, Colgan Air Services and any Vally View Rotary or Flyers Club member.

11th Annual Deke Slayton Airfest

The 11th Annual Deke Slayton Airfest will be held at the La Crosse Municipal Airport and Colgan Air Services on June 20-21, 2009. The airfest will be host to various units from the United States military, as well as internationally known civilian performers. Airfest 2009 is a special combination of and ground based activites featuring static display aircraft, NASA information and exhibits. While you might be able to see some of the airshow from outside the airport grounds, you don’t want to miss the other activites that can only be experienced by being there. Here are some of the featured performers:

F/A-18F VFA-122 Super Hornet Demonstration Team
P-51 Mustang featuring Vlado Lenoch
Heritage Flight featuring F-16 & P51
Super Decathlon flown by our local favorite Bill Blank

In addition, the 2nd Annual Veterans Memorial Ride and the Freedom Honor Flight will be held in conjunction with the Deke Slayton Airfest. The Veterans Memorial Ride will be hosting the country band Lonestar. Lonestar will be performing outside of Colgan Air Services’ Hangar with food and refreshments provided inside the hangar. At the end of the concert, World War II vets will be arriving on the Freedom Honor Flight and greeted by the crowds welcoming them home. It is sure to be a memorable weekend celebrating our country’s veterans!

Ground School Begins in a Month
